Department of Social Services

Adult Services

Adult services provided by Pasquotank County are for persons who are 18 years of age or older, and are disabled or incapacitated in some way. There are a wide array of services that can be accessed.

Pasquotank County DSs has limited funds available to use to provide respite services for family caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's or related disorder; grandparents or older relatives who are the primary caregiver for children with severe disabilities; or older individuals caring for adult children with severe disabilities to temporarily relieve them from their caregiving responsibilities.

Adult Protective Services

This service is intended to provide protection to elderly and/or disabled adults who are unable to protect themselves from being abused, neglected, or exploited by a caretaker or themselves and they have no one else who can provide protection or assistance for them. A Social Worker from the Department of Social Services will evaluate the situation and provide services as needed and accepted by the adult or ordered by a District Court Judge. If you are concerned that a disabled and/or elderly adult isn’t being cared for properly, please call the Department of Social Services and make an Adult Protective Services referral. Ask for an intake Social Worker. Please do not make an adult protective services report using e-mail.

PLEASE, DO NOT SUBMIT A CHILD OR ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES REPORT BY E-MAIL.

The Department of Social Services can assist people with the initiation and/or completion of the Guardianship process.
