Why Recycle?

NC General Statute 130A-309 and Pasquotank County Ordinance #94

Disposal Bans:

Aluminum Cans, Anti-freeze, Asbestos (friable), Cardboard, Glass Containers, Lead Acid Batteries, Newspaper, Plastic (#1 &#2), Tires, Yard Waste, White Goods (appliances).

 

Waste Reduction Goals by 2001:

Forty percent (40%) - State

Seventeen percent (17%) - County

 

9/14/98 President’s Executive Order

Each agency shall initiate a program to promote cost-effective waste prevention and recycling of reusable materials in all of its facilities.

 

7/21/99 Governor’s Executive Order

Each agency shall be responsible for implementing programs to make its operations environmentally sustainable, including programs to reduce and recycle solid wastes and procure environmentally preferable goods and services.

 

Benefits of Recycling:

btzbul3a.gif (159 bytes)  Generates revenue and creates jobs. Recycling employs approx. 14,000 people across the state. It employs more people than the bio-tech and agricultural livestock industries in NC.

Examples of Waste Reduction and Reuse:

bulletAvoid over packaged and disposable products.
bulletMake double-sided copies.
bulletShare newspaper or magazine subscriptions.
bulletReuse ceramic mugs instead of disposable cups.
bulletShop at a thrift store, consignment shop, or yard sale.
bulletRent or borrow books and tools.
