*** THE REGISTER OF DEEDS IS NO LONGER TAKING CHECKS*** *** ONLY CASH, MONEY ORDER or CERTIFIED CHECK WILL BE ACCEPTED *** All documents EXCEPT DEEDS AND DEEDS OF TRUST to be recorded are $14.00 for the first page and $3.00 for each additional page. Deeds are $19.00 for the first page and $3.00 for each additional page. Deeds of Trust are $30.00 for the first page and $3.00 for each additional page. These fees increased October 1, 2009. Certain deeds are subject to an NC Excise Tax and a county Land Transfer Tax. Please call during normal business hours for more information. Cancellations of Deeds of Trust are no charge.

Certified Birth Certificates

Provide child's full name, date of birth, father's full name, mother's full maiden name and your relationship to the child. Fee is $10.00 for the large size certificate with a raised seal. (Wallet size is no longer available.)

Certified Death Certificates

Provide decedent's full name, date of death and your relationship to the decedent. Fee is $10 per copy.

Certified Marriage License

Provide groom's full name, bride's full maiden name, date of marriage, and your relationship to the parties. Fee is $10.00 per copy.

Marriage License

There are two methods in which a marriage license can be obtained

1. Both parties must appear in this office. Each must have a picture ID and a Social Security Card. If either or both have been married before, proof must be provided that the last marriage has ended. Effective October 1, 2009 our office requires a certified birth certificate for all applicants.

2. One of the parties must complete an affidavit in lieu of appearance for a marriage license. The other party must appear in this office with a picture ID, Social Security card and the completed affidavit. If either or both have been married, proof must be provided that the last marriage has ended.

After the license is issued, parties can be married in North Carolina the same day or anytime up to 60 days of issuance. Fee is $60.00 CASH.
